Are eyelash growth serums really effective?

Are eyelash growth serums really effective?

Eyelashes may be small and seemingly insignificant, but they are essential for the health and protection of our eyes, so it is important to take proper care of them.

Mascara, false eyelashes, and eyelash extensions lengthen and plump up your lashes, but constant use of these products can also damage your natural lashes. If you're looking for a more permanent and natural solution to make your eyelashes look more beautiful and healthier, an eyelash growth serum can help.

Eyelash serum - why are eyelashes important?

Eyelash serums are relatively new products that have been developed because of the need to take care of our eyelashes, which are subjected to daily make-up, mascara, cleansing, false eyelash application, and eyelash extensions. Eyelashes are an important part of our facial appearance.

However, eyelashes are not just for decoration they do not only serve to ''beautify'' the face, but they also have an important function. They protect our eyes from dirt and dust that might fall into them. The eyelashes act as an additional barrier that traps dirt particles to keep our eyes clean because when the eyelashes come into contact with dirt, the eyelids reflexively close.

They may be small and seemingly insignificant, but they are essential for the health and protection of our eyes, so it is important to take proper care of them.

How does the eyelash growth cycle work?

Before we delve into the answer to the question of how to achieve longer, lusher lashes, we first need to know how the eyelash growth cycle works.

Most people have 90 to 160 lashes along the upper lash line. Each eyelash consists of a hair shaft (the part of the eyelash you see) and a root from which the eyelash grows.

Like the hair on your head, eyelashes grow in three stages:

  1. the ANAGENA PHASE, or the growth phase, lasts from four to ten weeks. Approximately 35-40% of the upper eyelashes are always in this phase.
  2. the CATAGENIC PHASE, or the degradation phase, lasts about 15 days.
  3. the TELOGENIC PHASE, or resting phase, which lasts from four to nine months. Approximately 50% of the eyelashes are in the telogen phase at any one time.

After the telogen phase, the eyelash falls out and the cycle starts again. So if you see a few eyelashes on your pillow in the morning - don't panic. Eyelash shedding is a natural part of the growth cycle. Each of your eyelashes is in a different phase of the growth cycle, so you don't shed all your eyelashes at once.

How long do eyelashes take to grow? Because the anagen phase of the growth cycle is much shorter than the anagen phase of the scalp (which can take several years), eyelashes rarely grow longer than 12 mm. On average, eyelashes grow between 0.12 mm and 0.14 mm per day.

Why does eyelash loss occur?

As mentioned above, eyelashes fall out naturally after the telogen phase of the growth cycle. However, the way we treat our eyelashes also influences their premature fall-out. The key to eyelash growth is therefore to encourage more growth during the anagen phase while preventing breakage or loss with additional special care.

Why are my eyelashes short, light, or sparse?

There are several reasons why your eyelashes are short, light, or sparse. Unfortunately, some of them are beyond our control, and some of them are within our control

.1. Age

As you get older, your eyelashes become more sparse. This is because the growth cycle slows down, so it takes longer for new eyelashes to grow after the old ones have fallen out. In addition, eyelashes become more brittle and dry, which can cause them to break or fall out prematurely.

2. Improper care

Using drying mascaras or wearing false eyelashes and eyelash extensions can cause sparse, brittle, or short eyelashes.

3. Inadequate diet

Hair follicles need a certain amount of vitamins and minerals to grow healthy hair. If you don't consume enough nutrients, your hair growth can suffer, and this also applies to eyelash growth. Inadequate nutrition can also make growing hair more brittle and prone to breakage.

4. Medical conditions

Certain conditions such as alopecia, hypothyroidism, or trichotillomania can cause eyelashes to fall out. Sometimes hair loss (including eyelash loss) can also be a side effect of medication. If you suspect that eyelash loss is caused by a medical condition, you should consult your doctor.

How can I speed up eyelash growth?

If you want to speed up eyelash growth, you can try some of these natural methods.

1. Stop using mascara

Believe it or not, mascara ingredients can dry out your lashes, making them more brittle and prone to falling out. If you can't stop using mascara completely, give your lashes a break at least one day a week.

2. Gently remove make-up before going to bed

If you wear eye makeup, remove it before going to bed. The last thing you want on your lashes all night is mascara ingredients drying out your lashes.  Be extra gentle when removing your make-up to avoid unnecessarily tearing your lashes. Use a make-up remover to gently remove mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow, or use reusable pads to gently cleanse your lashes. They are proven to remove all makeup residues.

3. Avoid false eyelashes and eyelash extensions

Fake eyelashes can help create the appearance of fuller, longer lashes, but they can damage your real lashes. It's almost impossible to remove the glue from false eyelashes and extensions without ripping out your natural lashes, so save their use for special occasions.

What are eyelash growth serums and how do they work?

Eyelash growth serums work by nourishing the eyelashes and stimulating hair growth. Just as moisturizing the skin is key to healthy skin, moisturizing the eyelashes is key to healthy eyelashes. Without enough moisture, eyelashes break easily.

They are made up of peptides, amino acids, vitamins, and other nutrients that make natural eyelashes look healthier with regular use. They can also stimulate the hair follicle cells to work harder, thus stimulating the growth of the eyelashes. Vitamin B5 or panthenol, for example, improves skin health and optimizes the ability of prostaglandins to signal hair growth.

The serums provide the necessary nutrients directly at the roots of the eyelashes. Normally, we would get the nutrients for eyelash growth from the blood, but because of our diet, our body can use the nutrients for something ''more important'' than eyelash growth. However, by applying an eyelash growth serum topically, we can ensure that our natural eyelashes get the right amount of nutrients in the targeted area.

Eyelash growth serums help natural eyelashes to be in perfect condition and keep them strong against external influences to minimize breakage. Eyelash serums are therefore the perfect choice for those who want fuller eyelashes and for those who have damaged and thinning eyelashes due to eyelash extensions.

Eyelash Growth Serum works by activating the hair follicle and stimulating rapid growth of the eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and fuller. The best results are achieved in about 12 weeks of regular use.

Our eyelash growth serum has also undergone a three-month efficacy test. The test aimed to determine the direct effect of the tested product on the density, length, and strength of the eyelashes. The product was used daily for the first 8 weeks, after which it was used 2 to 4 times a week for the next 4 weeks.

The results were measured before the first application and 3 months after the first application. The results showed that the tested product lengthened and strengthened the eyelashes.
